Lee
Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarship for his family and service to the community. The first is his familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children in a Eufala farm. A second reason was he is the youngest of three brothers to play for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi Award for being the best lineman in the country. The three years he was an offensive lineman, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. In 1975, he received the third scholarship of his career and was recognized as the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon received his bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work during his college years. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. He also began his career in the field of business. The first position he held was an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked in the past for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored his name in 1982, as one of the top 10 youngsters in the US. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was player, commanded his team for the year 1975. In 1993, Roy joined the University of South Florida's sports department as the Director of Athletics as an associate. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Jr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
